Bhutan
lies in a hidden corner of the eastern Himalaya,
sandwiched between Tibet and India. The country
forms a giant staircase from its southern borders
at an altitude of 3000m up to some of the highest
unclimbed Himalayan peaks.
The country is often likened to Switzerland because
of its small size, jealously guarded isolation
and stunning mountain scenery. Bhutan imposes
strict environmental standards; a staggering 65%
of the land remains under forest cover.
Bhutan maintains a strict policy of limiting the
numbers of people who can visit the country so
as not to significantly affect the natural environment
or the lifestyle of the Bhutanese people. All
tourists are charged for services at a fixed daily
rate. This provides the country with foreign currency
for development programs. Tiger Mountain operates
two tours to Bhutan; both eight days. We can also
create individual itineraries to reflect your
particular interest, be it trekking, festivals,
religion or even the national sport - archery. |
